Breyer Custom Nup by Melanie Miller
A custom Breyer horse is an original finish model horse that has been customized in some way. This can range from a horse that has only been repainted to a Breyer that has been drastically resculpted. Here at Aidan’s Toy Trove, my personal Breyer Collection consists of these uniquely painted and resculpted Breyer model horses. Yesterday, I shared with you a simple custom on the Connemara Mare mold which was repainted by Cynthia Wyatt. You can see yesterday’s blog post here.
Breyer 1753 Banks Vanilla
Nup by Chinook Studios
Today, I bring you a more moderate Breyer custom. Meet Nup! She has had a moderate amount of resculpting done. This horse was created from the Connemara Mare mold who’s current release is the Breyer 1753 Banks Vanilla.

Nup was customized by Melanie Miller of Chinook Studios. She has a moderate amount of resculpting done to the original mold. She has a uniquely braided mane and tail decorated with purple bows. She is painted an intricate varnish roan appaloosa and is packed with an amazing amount of detail. She comes with her own finely crafted miniature halter which is carved with her name across the noseband. See Nup up close in the video.

In this video, I share with you one of my simple custom Breyer horses. By simple custom, I mean that there has not been any major reworking of the mold. This horse was created from the Connemara Mare mold who’s current release is the Breyer 1753 Banks Vanilla.

She was painted by Cynthia Wyatt in 2016 and is now a Chincoteague Pony. This horse reminds me a lot of the 2017 Breyer Flagship horse Beachcomber. See this horse up close in the video.

Breyer Glossy Julien and Sophia Product Review & Video

Breyer Glossy Julien and Sophia Review
On December 13’th, Breyer offered a Collector’s Club Appreciation Glossy Cosette model. Shortly after this promotion, Breyer offered a ‘free’ promotional Glossy Julien and Sophia OR a Glossy Cosette.
I am happy to report that I received the Breyer Glossy Julien and Sophia set that I wanted as I had already received the Breyer Glossy Cosette with Breyer’s first promotion.
If you would like to learn more about last year’s promotion or about the Glossy Cosette promotion, I linked my original blog post here.
Last year, I ordered a number of matte Breyer Julien and Sophia sets (the matte set is pictured above, the glossy set is on the left and right). I was sad to find that the majority had major factory flaws. The sets that I did keep still had flaws but not as extensive as those that I returned. Some of the factory flaws included goobers and lint in the finish and shiny scratch marks from where the metal masking was.
The Glossy Julien and Sophia sets were glossed by Breyer at their New Jersey factory from their overstock of the matte Breyer 712162 Julien and Sophia set. As such, the glossed version also has these same factory flaws. Happily. the shiny scratch marks that were seen so often on the matte version, were glossed over and cannot be seen. On the down side, the gloss job itself has a bit of texture to it.

The Scoop On Free Breyer Bases & Breyer 597 Ruffian Without Base

The Scoop On Free Breyer Bases
For those of you that don’t know, Breyer will send you a free replacement base for your Breyer Horse. You just need to email or call and ask for one. Sometimes it takes a bit of persistence. Having said that, I think that I have have exceeded my ‘free base’ quota. As I buy and sell so many Breyer horses, I have received a lot of free bases and I don’t want to abuse the generosity of Breyer.
Now there are a couple of gotchas. Breyer will basically send you a base to make your horse stand. To my knowledge, they will not send decorative bases like those seen on the Ethereal Horses. Some of the stands that Breyer will send you include the disc bases for Salinero & Huckleberry Bey, Ruffian’s base and the base for the Show Jumping Warmblood . I’m sure there are others, but these are the ones that come to mind. You also may not receive the exact same design that your Breyer was issued with. For example, the current run of Ruffian is the Breyer 1757 American Pharoah. American Pharoah comes with a Black base with his name written on it. Let’s say you are missing a base for you Breyer 1329 Rags To Riches. You request a replacement base from Breyer. Breyer will send you the base that they currently have on hand. This might be the black base that was designed for American Pharoah or it might be the more common clear base. Conversely, let’s say you have a Breyer 1757 American Pharoah that is missing his base. You might receive the black base that was designed for American Pharoah or you might receive the more common clear base. Breyer does not stock bases in large quantities. I tried purchasing replacement bases but that was a no go.
New eBay Listing!
Today I listed a still tied in the original box Breyer 597 Ruffian. I purchased her from an artist that only wanted the horse for the base. As such, Ruffian is missing a base but is still in her original box. This is a great chance to get a Ruffian at a discount because she is missing her base (which you can get for free!) How’s that for a win win situation?
