Breyer Beachcomber and Cypress!
The Connemara Mare is one of my favorite Breyer molds. I know she isn’t for everyone but I adore Sarah Minkiewicz sculpts. How could I not love her?! 2017 looks to be a fantastic year for the Connemara Mare mold! The new for 2016 1753 Banks Vanilla will remain a regular run for 2017.
Beachcomber will be a 2017 Flagship Special Run. She is the trademark chestnut pinto seen on the Chincoteague Pony breed. Great job Breyer! She reminds me of my custom Breyer Connemara Mare by Cyntha Wyatt (pictured on the right). The custom is for sale, you can email me for more information aidanstoytrove@gmail.com. The Chincoteague Pony has long enchanted the minds and hearts of generations. Immortalized by Marguerite Henry’s classic books, as well as Breyer models, these hardy ponies have called Virginia’s Assateague Island their home since the 17th century. They were likely brought to Assateague by early area settlers who turned their horses loose to graze on the island (although there are tales of the ponies coming to the island by shipwreck).
Whatever their origin, Assateague’s population of ponies has thrived. Surviving on the marsh grasses, these ponies typically stand 12-13hh and often have pinto coloring. The herd is owned by the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company, and every summer the “Saltwater Cowboys” round up the ponies for their annual Pony Penning. After a swim across the Assateague Channel to Chincoteague Island, some of the foals are auctioned off, which keeps the herd at a healthy and sustainable size.
Beachcomber is a Chincoteague Pony mare sporting a lovely pinto coat. A limited edition of only 3,000 pieces, scoop her up before she swims away!

Breyer 2017 Vintage Club Special Run Cypress

The Connemara Mare will also be offered in woodgrain for 2017 Vintage Club Members. Her name is Cypress. She makes the Vintage Club a tad more appealing to me but it’s still a pass for me.
